What are the policies and disclaimer for
registering a domain name?
• Ok, I'm ready to register my domain name! Where do I go?
Domain names are the familiar, easy to
remember names for computers on the Internet (such as american.com). They
correspond to a series of numbers (called Internet Protocol numbers) that
serve as routing addresses on the Internet. Domain names are used generally as
a convenient way of locating information and reaching others on the
Internet.
In short, to "register"
a domain name is simply to "reserve" a domain name. The
Internet domain name system (DNS) consists of a directory, organized
hierarchically, of all the domain names and their corresponding computers
registered to particular companies and persons using the Internet. When you
register a domain name, it will be associated with the computer on the
Internet you designate during the period the registration is in effect. The
Silverhawk Network registers all domains through an ICANN-accredited domain name
registrar (ICANN is the new non-profit
corporation that is assuming responsibility from the U.S. Government for
coordinating certain Internet technical functions, including the management of
Internet domain name system).
The current fee for registering
a domain name is only $20.00 - a year!
This fee is discounted compared to Networksolutions.com's and
Register.com's current
rates! The renewal fee after the two years is only $20 per each additional
year. Please note that payment must be received first before we can register
your domain name. The fee is non-refundable.
TheSilverhawk Network is committed not only to the
best price but also to the best technology in registration
services. All domains are
registered through a high-performance Sun and
Oracle based registration infrastructure. The registration servers were built
from the ground-up to withstand registration volumes in excess of 50,000 per
day! Network features include multi-home mirrored databases, 24/7
network monitoring, and redundant OC12 backbone connectivity.
Unless if you have
already signed up for one of our cool
accounts, then your name registration does not include any web
hosting. Registering a domain name simply involves reserving the domain name.
Do I receive some kind of
verification of my domain name after I register?
Yes! You should receive an email
confirmation of your registration within 24hrs.
• How can I register foreign
domain names (.uk, .se, .ca, etc)?
Please click here to visit our Foreign
Domain Registrars resource page. Although, The Silverhawk Network
can host your foreign domain name, we however DO NOT register
any foreign domain names. You will have to go to our Foreign
Registrars page, find your country, and register the domain name yourself.
We can give you any information needed by the foreign registrar.
• How long does it take for
the world to access my domain name?
Your registration should be
completed within 24hrs and will be seen through the Whois
Database also within 24hrs. Note that if your registration also includes
web hosting, then it truly depends on ALL networks and ISPs of the
world to update their servers and lookup your new domain name. Thus,
full propagation of new domain names by the entire Internet should take place
within 48hrs.
How can I transfer a domain name to your
registrar?
If you wish to just transfer an
already registered domain name to us (without any web hosting involved),
simply email dns@samsilverhawk.com your
domain name, your full name, email address, and name servers you want it
modified to. You will then be billed accordingly.
Once
I have already registered, how can I change my contact or DNS information?
Simply email dns@samsilverhawk.com
and describe the changes that you need done.
• Who
owns the domain name if I register with you?
You do! When we register
your domain name, we will put you as the administrative, billing and owner contact.
We then put us down as the technical contact in case someone can't get ahold of you.
Is the InterNIC synonymous with Network
Solutions, Inc?
No. The InterNIC is a concept for an
integrated network information center that was developed by several companies,
including Network Solutions, in cooperation with the U.S. Government. Under
a recent agreement with the U.S. Government, Network Solutions is
transitioning from the use of the word "InterNIC" in connection with
its products and services. InterNIC is a registered service mark of the U.S.
Department of Commerce.
