Arizona petrified wood, what I call FIRE wood! Just BRILLIANT!

Cabochon = [cab-uh-shon] (plural cab-o-chons) ~noun~ A stone of convex form, highly polished, but not faceted; also, the style of cutting itself. Such stones are said to be cut en cabochon. Cabochon is an Old French-derived word for 'little head', refering to the head's resemblance to a stone or other material cut with a rounded top.

Whew, that's rather dry, isn't it?! Happily, cabochons themselves are a lot more fun than their dictionary definition. -smile- Here are some of my favorite stones that sold on my eBay auctions, many of which were none too easy for me to part with. Hope you enjoy viewing them:

A world class Tepee Canyon agate, well beyond what the photo captured. Spectacular ocean jasper, cut from some of the very first material ever harvested & sailed out. Utah beryllium opalite in unusual colors, with lavender & gold agate swirls. Do you see 'the dancer' within? Luna agate, an ornate and nicely colored example, as orby as a lot of ocean jasper!

Chrysocolla/malachite mix called Eilat stone, a particularly vibrant example from King Solomon's mines in Israel. Forest fire jasper's brilliant crimson and beige afloat in a snowy agate/quartz mix. Amazing 'blue copper' covellite, with silvery pyrite & flashes of fuschia, from Butte, MT's Leonard mine. Dramatic translucent wood replacement in yummy pastel shades, totally agate!

Oregon's Biggs jasper, fabulous old material with mauve, purples and dendrites. Lacy tube and eye agate with a crown of terminated quartz crystals. Totally pyritized heavyweight dinosaur bone, an ancient and ULTRA rare prize from England's Isle of Wight (aka Dinosaur Island). Awesome LARGE cells! Ajoite, a rarity from the New Cornelia mine, near the town of Ajo, AZ.

Splendid variscite with spiderwebbed streaks. Underwater scenic from premium old stock regency rose plume agate, Graveyard Point, OR.  An ornate & fascinating translucent treasure! Utah's beryllium opalite, purple-cream-yellow with a hint of plumes in translucent agate. GEMMY 'Inca Rose' rhodochrosite stalactite, with multiple bullseyes and scalloped band.

'Homedale Blue' plume agate, with dendrites and absolutely breathtaking contrast!  Sometimes called purple sage plume, and mighty scarce by any name. Top shelf raspberry tube agate, Mexico; simply delicious! Collectibly rare Carey Ranch plume agate, shown backlit. Mexican crazy lace agate with unusual periwinkle blues.

Rare Horse Canyon agate, surpassed this photo completely. Grand old Mexican crazy lace agate in highly detailed reddish and coral hues, with orbs, sagenite and wild banding. Silver lace onyx from California's Calico Mtns; has at least some precious silver content. Rare & collectible Brazilian amethyst with thorn-like inclusions of bright golden cacoxenite.

Spectacular Crown of Silver psilomelane with red jasp-agate. 'Inca Rose' rhodochrosite, just WOW! Stunning PURPLE laguna agate; yup, honest to goodness, it's really that purple! African tigereye with band of translucent quartz.

Graveyard Point plume agate in gorgeous carnelian shades. Ochoco lace agate, very ornate doublet on black basenite. Ocean jasper, original old stock. Exotica porcelain jasper, one of the very first I cut when it was introduced.
