BEST FRIEND AND LOVER
I stood upon the mountainside
breathing the sweetest breath of life.
For the end had come of a long journey
filled with desperation, despair, and strife.
We had both walked seperate paths of broken souls
long past the hope of repair.
Comforted by our history, how little did we know,
of the deep enduring love that we would share.
I was frightened to fall in love with you
knowing full well the pain it could bring.
tired of lonliness and wondering at luck.
Shocked that you felt the same thing.
I was wary when you peered into my darkest corners
searching for the hows, and whens, and whys.
Excavating long buried fears and memories and
smoothing them with talk of blue skys.
Now I look back and am so grateful
in the way we shared, and loved, and grew.
We built a base not only of love
for I found my best friend in you.
