Nipomo marcasite in agate cab ~
Offered here is a cabochon of rare Nipomo marcasite in agate, from that famous location in Central California. The area where this great old material was once collected is no longer accessible, so it has become quite hard to come by these days, particularly in this far-above-average calibre. It features milky translucent agate, with a touch of the more typical yellow, filled with shiny metallic 'chromed islands' of bright marcasite. Gleaming flowery plumes, actually, in a shape that very much resembles a rose. Nipomo marcasite is one of those extremely challenging materials to photograph, being brilliantly reflective like a mirror; the pic of the stone in hand illustrates that quality. The cab has a very high rounded dome of nearly 6.5mm, a rounded triangular shape, and a super shiny polish both front and back.
Size: 38x27mm
Weight: approximately 50 carats
