Lake Superior agate cab ~
Offered here is an unusual cabochon of Minnesota's State Gem, Lake Superior agate. This highly collectible agate sure cuts a stupendous stone! This particular example has a strongly crystalline nature, showing the wonderful banding so typical of prize lakers, cut from the center of a so-called 'floater'. Very translucent overall, the elongated 'eye' at the large end contains drusy sparkles which twinkle even though it is a closed pocket. I must point out the presence of a couple healed fracture feathers that so often plague this material, but they are quite solid and stable. The stone has a well rounded dome, a sleek shape, and a terrific glassy polish both front and back.
