Pigeon blood agate cab ~
Offered here is a cabochon of pigeon blood agate, also known as cornelian, from Utah. This material is so named for its resemblance to splashes or droplets of pigeon's blood. This fine example is rather unusual because, along with the typical dots and spots, it contains curls and folds of crimson that look quite a lot like roses. It also has a great degree of translucence, illustrated by the backlit photo. The cab is cut with a very high rounded dome, a sleek designer shape, and a brilliantly glassy polish both front and back.
