Nipomo marcasite agate cab ~
Offered here is a cabochon of rare Nipomo marcasite in agate, from that famous location in Central California. The area where this great old material was once collected is no longer accessible, so it has become quite hard to come by these days, particularly in this far-above-average calibre. It features bluish translucent agate, rather than the more typical yellow, filled with shiny metallic 'chromed islands' of bright marcasite. Flowery plumes, actually, with oodles of gleam! Very tough to photograph, this stone is brilliantly reflective, like a mirror, as shown by the second pic; I think it's much nicer than my camera and I were able to illustrate. The cab has a triangular cross section with nearly flat sides, a designer 'spear' shape, and a super shiny polish both front and back.
Size: 58x13mm
Weight: approximately 43 carats
