Wave Hill agate cab ~
Offered here is a very special cab of Wave Hill agate, from Australia's Northern Territory. When this exceptional material came into my hands last Friday, I actually got up out of bed to cab some. This is the very first result, and I think it's magnificent. Terry Maple is impressed with it; when he spied these agates at this year's Tucson show, he bought the entire lot! Bless his heart for sending some fine little nodules home for me to enjoy!
Please take a good look at the details in this stone and you'll see why I'm so excited. It has bold fortification banding, like the finest Laguna or Fairburn agates; the colors are at least as appealing as that seen in Dryhead or Lake Superior agates; it has a large helping of parallax, like some of the best Botswana agates; it has inctricate orbs and bullseyes that rival some ocean jaspers; and to top it all off, it has contrast and composition to die for! Yes indeedy, I, too, am VERY impressed with it. Believe me when I say, there will be plenty of these appealing little beauties in my own personal collection, and in my Christmas jewelry too, you betcha. The uniqueness of each Wave Hill agate makes it a lapidary's fantasy, a collector's MUST HAVE, and I have no doubt it'll be a jewelry designer's best friend. I think it's a bargain at less than $3 per carat. It's YUMMY, and then some! This cab has a low but well rounded dome of about 5mm, and fun designer 'leaf' shape, with a great glassy polish both front and back.
