Opalite cab ~
Offered here is a very large and unique cabochon of opalite, from the Brush-Wellman beryllium mine in Utah (now closed to any and all collecting). Sometimes known as bertrandite, Tiffany stone, ice cream opal, but no matter what you call it, it's certainly gorgeous stuff! I'm told this rare opal gets its beautiful colors from fluorite. This colorful example has both purple and yellow shades, with jet black dendrites and streaky accents adding oodles of extra character. It's a beauty! It has a very high rounded dome of 8.5mm, and a fine glossy polish both front and back.
Size: 42x32mm
Weight: approximately 64 carats
