Peanut wood cab ~
Offered here is a cabochon of rare petrified peanut wood, also known as teredo wood. This ancient fossil material is an Araucaria species of tree, collected in the Kennedy Ranges of Western Australia. If you look closely, you can see the ring pattern in the brown areas of this semi-translucent petrified wood. The cream colored areas are where the once-living wood had been bored by teredo mollusks, aka shipworms, and those holes were later filled with radiolarite. The cab has a very high rounded dome, a crisp symmetrical shape, and a slick glassy polish both front and back.
Size: 35x26mm
