Binghamite cab ~
Offered here is a designer cabochon of rare binghamite, from Minnesota. It's all but extinct nowadays, and I hear even the old mine dumps and tailings were thoroughly depleted long ago. Closely related kin to tigereye and silkstone, it's sometimes called 'the American pietersite', and when it's good, binghamite displays an excellent chatoyance, like this stone! This cab features wall-to-wall flashy streaks of golden yellow with deep reds, with an occasional touch of purple and beige. At the edges, here and there, are a few threads of darkly shiny metallic hematite, but most is on the backside. It has a well rounded dome, an inspiring shape, and a smooth glassy polish both front and back.
Size: 43x20mm
Weight: approximately 31 carats
