Cacoxenite in amethyst cab ~
Offered here is a cabochon of amethyst with inclusions of golden cacoxenite, a rarity cut from grand old Brazilian material. Technically, the inclusions are the mineral goethite, appearing here as tiny golden thorns arranged in jagged rows. The backlit photo reveals that the translucent lavender quartz has some attractive zoning, and some tinges of reddish-pink lepidocrosite. There are some areas of the typical 'fairy frost' inclusions and odd lines present, but they're not overly distracting. The cab has a high rounded dome of 8mm, and a brilliantly glassy polish both front and back.
Size: 40x18mm
Weight: approximately 34 carats
