Opal cab ~
Offered here is a collectible cabochon of fiery Gilson created crystal opal. This rare, old vintage opal is the genuine article, laboratory grown by Pierre Gilson Sr. himself. The rough came directly from his son, who halted production quite a number of years ago. The unduplicated manufacturing process was an expensive and time consuming one that took up to two years to complete, and remains a closely guarded secret to this day. Totally AWESOME stuff, super hard, polymer free and virtually 100% pure pleasure to work with, yet affordable, unlike a lot of mined opal. This extraordinary stone features absolutely brilliant flashes of orange, green, blue, yellow, red and purple fire that's breathtakingly gorgeous, far prettier and more amazing than the photos illustrate. A full rainbow of colors, without a dead spot anywhere to be found! It also exhibits a fascinating color shift that you'd expect to see only in opal dug from the earth. The cab has a nicely rounded dome of 4mm, a graceful designer drop shape, and a glistening polish both front and back.
