Rutilated quartz cab ~
Offered here is a large, dramatic cabochon of rutilated quartz, cut from top notch material mined in Brazil decades ago. This impressively flashy stone features water-clear quartz with brightly gleaming golden needles of rutile, mostly in thick, flattened bunches. Happily, this fine example has next to none of the typical 'fairy frost', but does contain a fascinating inclusion of metallic hematite, from which the needles seem to 'grow'. When the flat planes of the cubic hematite beneath the surface catch the light just so, they reflect a beautiful bluish color, adding an attractive contrasting counterpoint to the sheaves of bright 'spun gold' rutile (titanium dioxide). This unique gem is truly a treasure, sure to amaze in even the simplest of settings! The stone has a generously high rounded dome of 8mm, a versatile designer shape, and a slick, glassy 'wet ice' polish both front and back.
