Pietersite cab ~
Offered here is an extraordinary cabochon of premium African pietersite. This exceptionally colorful example boasts outstanding silky chatoyance in a swirling pattern that shimmers with the light. The many patches of color refract brilliantly, and yet there's also an air of mystery about it. This stone was cut from grand old stock that's hard and super-silicated, so it began polishing up in the coarser sanding stages, long before I got to the fine finishing grits. The cab has a sleek designer 'flame' shape, and a nicely rounded dome of 5mm that's polished to a glassy brilliance both front and back. And considering how the cost of gem pietersite has sky-rocketed in the past decade, my per carat price for a stone of this size and quality is a steal!
