Cacoxenite in quartz cab ~
Offered here is a cabochon of quartz with inclusions of golden cacoxenite, a rarity cut from grand old Brazilian material. Technically, the inclusions are the mineral goethite. At certain angles, their appearance is like spun gold, and as you can see, they really do look like 'thorns', which are arranged in rows. The backlit photo reveals that the quartz is highly translucent; please click for a closer view of the details. There are a few of the typical hairlines and 'fairy frost' inclusions present, but I don't find them to be overly distracting. The cab has a well rounded dome of 5.5mm, a versatile designer shape, and a brilliantly glassy polish both front and back.
