Turritella agate cab ~
Offered here is a fascinating cabochon of turritella agate, from Wyoming. This ancient fossilized material is chock full of turritella shells, from which it takes its name. The white shells contrast sharply in this nicely composed example, the largest of which are quite impressive, with several areas showing sparkles. Other shells are filled with blue, white, or brownish agate. Turritella agate was never a favorite of mine until a few years ago, when I obtained some of this great old solid stuff; it's much more highly silicated than the plentiful ordinary material, pure pleasure to work with, and fine enough to take an excellent glassy shine. You can see the difference right away. I'm sure you'll love it, give it a try! The cab has a high rounded dome of 7+mm, and a bold designer shape that's polished both front and back.
Size: 39x26mm
Weight: approximately 55 carats
