Covellite cab ~
Offered here is cabochon of covellite, a rare heavyweight metallic ore of copper from the Leonard mine near Butte, Montana. This awesome, super reflective "blue copper" stone features the classic deep, rich cobalt blue coloration, with subtle moire-like threads and patches of shiny metallic pyrite. It also has some areas of the very desireable fuschia flash, although that phenomenon is only visible at certain angles. In hand, you'll probably be astounded by the cab's hefty weight; it's amazingly heavy for its size. This one ought to make some outstanding heirloom piece of jewelry, no doubt, or a soon-to-be favorite in your collection of ultra-rarities. There is some pinpoint pitting on the front, which is all too typical of this material, and the backside has several natural voids in patches of pyrite and white quartz. The stone has a well rounded dome of 6mm, a stylized designer 'flame' shape, and a bright, gleaming polish.
