Palm agate cab ~
Offered here is a cabochon of palm agate, from Indonesia. This new petrified palm has fascinating detail in its wild figure, and the colors are amazing. This example has a multitude of red-lined bullseyes with white agate or sparkly quartz cores, including many with fortifications. They stand out nicely against a background of golden-orange. The patterns seem to indicate that this was once part of the roots of a living palm tree, but some believe it's actually the fossilized remains of caddis fly larvae, of all things... Still, whatever this material is, I can tell you for sure that I like it, and it makes fascinating stones! Which is good news for creative people of all kinds. The cab has a well rounded dome of 6mm, a designer 'bullet' shape, and a smooth, glassy polish both front and back.
