Nipomo marcasite cab ~
Offered here is a cabochon of rare Nipomo marcasite in agate, from that famous location in Central California. Years ago, I was told the bean fields where this great old material was once collected now has condos built all over it, so that's it, folks. This example features translucent golden yellow and milky bluish agate between brilliantly shiny metallic 'chromed islands' of marcasite. Plumes, actually, with oodles of gleam! Nipomo marcasite is an extremely challenging material to photograph because it's so highly reflective. I didn't do real well on these pics but hope they're enough to give you the idea; it's very shiny in hand, and darkly beautiful! The cab has a well rounded dome of 5.5mm, an elongated designer 'flame' shape, and a great gleaming polish both front and back.
Size: 55x11mm
Weight: approximately 31 carats
