Nipomo marcasite cab ~
Offered here is a cabochon of rare Nipomo marcasite in agate, from that famous location in Central California. The area where this great old material was once collected is no longer accessible, so it has become very scarce these days, particularly in this well above-average calibre. This example is loaded with shiny metallic 'islands' of marcasite, suspended in a background of translucent bluish white agate. Nipomo marcasite is an extremely challenging material to photograph because the polished surface is very reflective, a lot like a mirror. This cab has a well rounded dome of 6.5mm, a plump designer drop shape, and a slick glassy polish both front and back.
