Nipomo marcasite in agate cab ~
Offered here is a cabochon of rare Nipomo marcasite in agate, from that famous location in Central California. I've often heard the bean fields where this great old material was once collected now has condos built on it, so it's all over for collecting, folks. This fine example has a background of translucent yellow agate with shiny metallic 'chromed islands' of bright marcasite. Oodles of gleam! Nipomo marcasite is an extremely challenging material to photograph because it's so highly reflective; in hand, you'll see what I mean. The cab has a well rounded dome of 5.5mm, a versatile designer shape, and despite a couple natural voids on the backside, it has a bright gleaming polish both front and back.
