Dinosaur bone cab ~
Offered here is a cabochon of fossilized dinosaur bone, from Utah. This highly silicated material is many millions of years old, a marvelous example of the natural preservation of our earth's ancient, extinct 'thunder lizards'. Over millennia, the cells in this fossil bone have been completely replaced with translucent silica, with crimson red, periwinkle, or pale blue coloration in some, as if those were tiny agates. The cell walls are now a contrasting shade of brown and tan, forever frozen in time. The stone does show a great degree of gemmy translucence, as illustrated by the backlit photo; please click the pics to view the fascinating details. The cab has a well rounded dome of 6mm, and a crisp designer 'spear' shape, finished with a glassy polish both front and back.
