Fossil coral cab ~
Offered here is a cabochon of colorful fossilized coral, from Indonesia. This fascinating material is ever popular, particularly in these colors, and I must say I like it alot. I've read that less and less is being found these days, and that they seldom even bother to even look anymore. This example is a beauty: Without enlarging the pics, one can clearly see the stone's unmistakeable one-of-a-kind pattern of flower-like starbursts, hence the name 'flowers of the sea', as it is sometimes known. Reminds me of slices of lime, floating in a punchbowl. It is actually composed of the highly silicated fossil remains of colonial sea coral, many millions of years old! This cab has a high rounded dome of 7mm, a gracefully plump designer flame shape, and a slick glassy polish both front and back. Size: 50x29mm Weight: approximately 70 carats Price: SOLD See current gemstones for sale
