Cherry opal cab ~
Offered here is a cabochon of cherry opal, cut from rough nodules I brought back from Queretaro, Mexico as a teenager. The rockhound in me went NUTS when I first saw them, as you might well imagine, and I brought home quite a lot. Those few that I still have now aren't precious fire opal with play of color, but they certainly do have gorgeous cherry coloration and gemmy translucence. Much like Opal Butte opal. This example has several shades of red, from darker burgundy, to pinkish hues, to bright crimson. All translucent, illustrated by the backlit photo. The stone has a high rounded dome of 6mm, and a plump designer teardrop shape, polished to a glassy brilliance both front and back.
