Royal eyes cabenite jasper cab ~
Offered here is a unique cabochon of royal eyes jasper, also called cabenite. This rare thunderegg material was found decades ago in an area near McDermitt, on the Nevada/Oregon border. This example is quite attractive, with several unusually shaped burnt orange orbs bubbling to the surface of a spring green pool. Reminds me a little of Bruneau jasper, and has varied patterns and colors similar to those found in some Morrisonite and Willow Creek jaspers. Remarkable figure and shadings! I like how the jasper in this stone is so perfectly "married" to the surrounding matrix, which was sound enough to take an excellent polish, just like the gemmy part. It has long been rumored that this unusual jasper may be featured in an upcoming issue of Rock & Gem magazine, and if so, we can all read more about it then. Meanwhile here's another fabulous cab for your jewelry designing and/or collecting pleasure! The stone has a low rounded dome and a softly rounded designer 'diamond' shape that's highly polished front and back.
