Bruneau jasper cab ~
Offered here is a gemmy cabochon of Bruneau Canyon jasper, from Idaho. Looking from the photos to the stone, I have to say this one is more beautiful in hand. It's a squeaky clean example without flaw, and has an understated pattern resembling feathery flames. The colors are classic, combining warm hues of creamy peach and burnt orange chiffon, the darkest of which is translucent. Sadly, the best of this hard porcelain jasper is becoming alarmingly scarce and spendy these days, and I haven't heard whether anyone's actively harvesting it anymore. Bruneau jasper takes an outrageously glassy polish, and when it's nicely patterned like this cab is, it is highly sought after by collectors and designers alike. The stone has a low rounded dome, a crisp designer 'spear' shape, and a superb polish both front and back.
