Hells Canyon petrified wood cab ~
Offered here is a cabochon of petrified wood, an unsual and rare form from Hell's Canyon near the Idaho/Oregon border. (Read more about it on my blog.) The species is said to be sequoia, showing fascinating wavy annual growth lines in a herringbone pattern. This deluxe example has an amazing grain pattern, riddled with translucent pools and holes, each of which is lined with translucent quartz, milky agate, or (common) opal. They resemble tiny embedded geodes or thundereggs, complete with fortifications, each one with its own unique shape. Be sure to click to enlarge the photos to see the details. I'm no expert on pet wood, but this material seems opalized to some degree, and it certainly is GORGEOUS! This cab has a well rounded dome of 7mm, a fat designer teardrop shape, and a slick glassy polish both front and back.
Size: 49x32mm
Weight: approximately 54 carats
Price: $48.00
