Petrified palm root cab ~
Offered here is an unusual collector's cabochon of petrified palm, newly arrived GEM material from Sumatra. This fossil wood is a fascinating piece of the earth's natural history. Every detail of the once-living palm tree was preserved when it underwent the fossilization process. In addition, this example also has some small jagged pools of translucent blue agate, and an occasional pinpoint glittering of silvery pyrite. That black areas provide a strongly contrasting backdrop for the creamy tan petioles that once conveyed water from the palm's roots to its fronds. I think it's absolutely gorgeous stuff! No fossil collection is complete without a nice example of this amazing ancient palm! But it ought to make fabulous jewelry too. -smile- The cab has a well rounded dome of 8mm, a gracefully curved designer shape, and a brilliant polish both front and back.
