Royal imperial jasper cab ~
Offered here is an intriguing cabochon of Imperial jasper, from Mexico. This collectible 'ojitos' material is simply wonderful stuff, another member of the fine grained porcelain jasper family I love so much. (Ojitos means little eyes in Spanish.) This example features a repeating orbicular pattern, in shades of pink to reddish-mauve, which reminds me of radiating ripples on a pond. There's also a secondary pattern of curtain-like bands crossing diagonally. The figure fits the shape of the stone quite well, and the backside is beautiful too. The stone has a high rounded dome of 6.5mm, a versatile drop shape, and a super glassy polish both front and back.
