Offered here is an amazing cabochon of petrified wood, which hails from an unknown location. This fossil material is actually a wood replacement. I was unable to determine what species it is, but the once-living tree's ring pattern is certainly very well preserved in gemmy opalized agate. The colors are earthy hues of brown, cream and caramel, and the entire stone, including the darkest areas, do show a remarkable degree of translucence, as illustrated by the backlit photo. There are a few interesting fortifications for extra added character, too. This one will look grand in most any setting, or show it off with pride in your pet wood collection. The cab has a well rounded dome of 6mm, an elegant designer 'drop' shape, and a smooth glassy polish both front and back. Size: 52x28mm
