Dinosaur bone cab ~
Offered here is a cabochon of fossilized dinosaur bone, from Utah. This highly silicated material is many millions of years old, a marvelous example of the natural preservation of our earth's ancient, extinct 'thunder lizards'. Over millennia, the cells in this fossil bone have been completely replaced with a cherry red gel, making this a spiderweb example. The remnants of the actual cell walls are now jet black and fortified with haloes in shades of gray, forever frozen in time. There are neat 'cores' within a few of the cells, and one of the crystalline centers shows a bit of sparkle at certain angles. The stone is surprisingly translucent, despite its extra generous thickness; please forgive the glare in my backlit photo. The cab has a high and well rounded dome of 7mm, and an excellent glassy polish both front and back.
