Fossil coral cab ~
Offered here is a cabochon of fossilized coral, from Indonesia. This fascinating material is something they're just not finding much of these days, particularly with such rich coloration, and I must say I like it alot. Pink, rose, crimson red, gold and yellow in an unmistakeable one-of-a-kind pattern of flower-like starbursts, hence the name 'flowers of the sea', as it is sometimes known. These are the highly silicated fossil remains of colonial sea coral, many millions of years old! I was surprised to see some translucence in the stone, even with its 7mm thickness. This cab has a well rounded dome, a fancy designer 'diamond' shape, and a slick glassy polish both front and back.
Size: 53x35mm
Weight: approximately 65 carats
