Yellow opal cab ~
Offered here is a cabochon of lovely yellow opal. I suspect this originated near Napa, California, as it seems exactly like some other opal I have from that source. This material is deemed "common" opal because it has no flashing rainbow of fire, but it is anything but common in the other sense of the term. This example features gemmy translucent lemon yellow coloration, with an odd pattern of sugary dots in areas of the stone. It has a nicely rounded dome just shy of 5.5mm, and a gracefully curved teardrop shape, polished both front and back.
