Dinosaur bone cab ~
Offered here is a cabochon of fossilized dinosaur bone, from Utah. This highly silicated material is many millions of years old, a marvelous example of the natural preservation of our earth's ancient, extinct 'thunder lizards'. Over millennia, the cells in this fossil bone have been completely replaced with shades of pastel blue, clear, and crimson red to orange agate, with fortification banding in most of the largest ones. The cell walls are now a contrasting shade of light brown, forever frozen in time. The stone does show a great degree of translucence, as illustrated by the backlit photo; please click the pics to view the details. The cab has a well rounded dome of 6mm, and a crisp designer 'spear' shape, finished with a glassy polish both front and back.
