Royal imperial jasper cab ~
Offered here is an extraordinary cabochon of royal imperial jasper, from Mexico. This collectible 'ojitos' material is simply wonderful stuff, another member of the fine grained porcelain jasper family I love so much. (Ojitos means little eyes in Spanish.) This example features the full orbicular pattern of the very heart of the nodule, with a central orb overlaying a series of others that radiate outward, like ripples on a pond. Lilly pads!? The colors of the orbs are very attractive shades of mauve, with both raspberry and olive shadings, each orby petal with its own pretty pink edging. The backside is beautiful too, so an open-backed setting would be just the thing. The cab has a rounded dome of 4mm, a long designer 'crescent' shape, and a super glassy polish both front and back.
