Turquoise ~
Offered here is a cabochon of turquoise from China, cut from hand selected rough fresh from this year's Tucson shows. The stone not only has wonderfully appealing sky blues, but also golden russet, and a bit of olive green. Each individual nodule within the stone stands out beautifully against a background of contrasting rusty-brown to black. It reminds me a lot of the old Royston turquoise, the stuff I chose back in the '70s for my own jewelry. This material has been stabilized by a hardening process, as is most modern turquoise, but not dyed. It will wear wonderfully, without darkening or dimming over the years. The cab has a nicely rounded dome of 5.5mm, a graceful designer shape, and a fabulous glossy polish both front and back.
