Royal imperial jasper cab ~
Offered here is a splendid cabochon of Imperial jasper, from Mexico. This collectible 'ojitos' (little eyes) material is the best of the best. This pattern in this remarkable stone reminds me of a head of lettuce, or coins, though it's really orbs stacked one atop another. It is a study in various pastel shades of mauve, pink and even hints of yellow and blue, the colors transitioning to the color of old ivory toward the edges. No fractures at all, just natural pattern, and oddly enough, the little dashes I thought were dendrites are actually tiny flecks of golden metal! The stone has a well-rounded dome of 5.5mm, a designer 'spear' shape, and a brilliantly glassy polish both front and back.
