East Java plume agate cab ~
Offered here is a cabochon of East Java plume agate, a fairly recent find. Well, they call it plume agate, although this particular pattern certainly looks more like tubes to me. Those who have seen this stone remarked that it resembles some large celled dinosaur bone, and I have to agree. The orange outlined pools of grayish blue agate are edged with razor fine lines of pale periwinkle. A nice combination that includes some sprinklings of tiny white dots and ghostly fortifications. Rather like fire and ice. Other translucent pools allow the eye to see down into the stone, adding a fascinating dimension of depth. It's an intriguing material that will definitely make interesting jewelry, or a fine addition to your collection. The cab has a rounded dome of 5mm, and a plump designer 'flame' shape that's polished both front and back.
