Death Valley plume agate cab ~
Offered here is a collector's cabochon of Death Valley plume agate, also known as Wingate Pass plume agate, from California. This beautiful and very rare material is a classic favorite that's more and more difficult to come by these days, in part because the deposit is part of a strictly off-limits military base. What a pity. It's loaded with orange plumes, tipped with yellow, ochre, olive green, and red. Happily, this stone took a little better shine than does most, with only a very slight degree of the characteristic undercutting so typical of this agate variety. It's a beauty! The cab has a well rounded dome of 5mm, and an elongated designer 'flame' shape, polished both front and back.
