Bumblebee jasper cab ~
Offered here is a deluxe cabochon of bumble bee stone, from Indonesia. After slicing some of this extraordinary material in my slab saw, it simply isn't hard enough to be either a jasper or an agate. Once polished, it has a somewhat waxy feel, a lot like onyx does. For sure, it cuts FANTASTIC cabs! This example has brilliant yellow-orange bands alternating with jet black bands, which adds an appealing contrast. Some of the bands around the outside curve appear to show a bit of silky chatoyance, and there is also a neat tube figure too. The stone is surprisingly translucent, as illustrated by the backlit photo. The cab has a high rounded dome of nearly 6mm, a fat designer drop shape, and a slick glossy polish both front and back.
