Crown of Silver psilomelane cab ~
Offered here is a cabochon of Crown Of Silver psilomelane, from Chihuahua, Mexico. This classic old material is sometimes referred to as 'black malachite', though there's no real relation; it's becoming increasingly spendy due to a lack of production at the source. This example has some bullseyes, bands & plume figures in shiny 'smoked chrome' alternating with sub-metallic black. The subtle moire pattern is the perfect companion to mokume gane metal work. The stone has a low rounded dome of 5mm, and a gracefully curved designer shape, polished both front and back.
