Petrified palm root cab ~
Offered here is an unusual collector's cabochon of petrified palm root, newly arrived GEM material from Sumatra. This outstanding fossil wood is a fascinating piece of the earth's natural history. This example has a wild pattern of tiny tube-like spots (petioles) through the middle, with a few larger windblown bullseyes at the pointed end. The other end is jet black, showing some woodgrain and tiny pools of translucent blue agate. Plenty of contrast here, very unique! I left the last photo rather large so you can see some of the fascinating details, like the tiny tubes within the eyes. No fossil collection is complete without a nice example of this amazing new palm root. But it ought to make a fabulous item of jewelry too. -smile- The cab has a well rounded dome of 6mm, a bold designer shape, and a brilliant polish both front and back.
