Bruneau jasper cab ~
Offered here is an unusual cabochon of Bruneau Canyon jasper, from Idaho. It features an outstanding full orb pattern in the classic coloration of pastel peach, and just a bit of burnt orange, with several partial orbs behind, appearing to fade off into the distance. What sets this example apart from so many others is the unique silhouette of a buffalo skull, placed at an attractive angle within the main orb. Sadly, the best of this hard porcelain-like jasper is becoming alarmingly scarce and spendy these days, and last I heard the claim has been regulated out of production for good now. Bruneau jasper remains a favorite, and I love the stuff! It takes an outrageously glassy polish, and when it's beautifully patterned and unique like this cab is, it is sought after by collectors and designers alike. The stone has a well rounded dome of 6mm, and a gracefully curved designer teardrop shape, brilliantly polished both front and back.
