Royal eye cabenite jasper cab ~
Offered here is a cabochon of royal eyes jasper, also called cabenite. It was found years ago around McDermitt, on the Nevada/Oregon border, in thunderegg form. The fellow who mined the eggs was offering some small (& rather expensive) slabettes at this summer's Madras gem show for the very first time. This example is the most recent one I've cut, and I think it's quite attractive, with creamy orby areas and olive to spring green ripples. The burnt orange matrix adds a great contrast. Reminds me a little of Bruneau jasper, and has varied patterns and colors similar to those found in some Morrisonite and Willow Creek jaspers. It was rumored that this unusual jasper might be featured in an upcoming issue of Rock & Gem magazine, and if so, we can all read more about it then. Meanwhile here's another nice cab for your jewelry designing and/or collecting pleasure! The stone has a well rounded dome of nearly 6mm, and a designer 'flame' shape that's highly polished front and back.
Size: 55x25mm
Weight: approximately 57 carats
Price: SOLD Current gemstone for sale $59.00
