Bruneau jasper cab ~
Offered here is a cabochon of classic Bruneau Canyon jasper, from Idaho. It features a simple but intriguing orb pattern of orbs, in rich shades of creamy peachy-orange. The outlined orbs stand out pleasantly against a backdrop that's a shade or two deeper. It's all about nuance in this little beauty. Sadly, the best of this hard porcelain-like jasper is becoming alarmingly scarce and spendy these days, and the claim owner says the access route winds through extremely difficult terrain. And that's before he even gets down to the truly hard work of mining. Bruneau jasper remains a favorite, and I love the stuff! It takes an outrageously glassy polish, and when it's nicely patterned like this cab is, it is sought after by collectors and designers alike. The stone has a low rounded dome a little over 4.5mm, a gracefully curved designer shape, and a brilliant polish both front and back.
