Opalite cab ~
Offered here is a large cabochon of opalite, from the Brush-Wellman beryllium mine in Utah (now closed to any and all collecting). Sometimes known as bertrandite, Tiffany stone, ice cream opal, and even 'Purple Passion', no matter what you call it, it's certainly expressive stuff! I'm told this rare opalite gets its beautiful coloration from fluorite. This richly colored example has both light and dark shades of purple, with bold white lines and a patchwork of deep purple, black and burnt orange adding extra character. It has a nicely rounded dome of 8.5mm, a versatile designer shape, and a fine glossy polish both front and back.
