Opalite cab ~
Offered here is a large cabochon of opalite, from the Brush-Wellman beryllium mine in Utah (now closed to any and all collecting). Sometimes known as bertrandite, Tiffany stone, ice cream opal, and even 'Purple Passion', no matter what you call it, it's certainly expressive stuff! I'm told this rare opalite gets its beautiful coloration from fluorite. This richly colored example has both light and dark shades of purple, with a craquelure patchwork of deep purple, black and dark blue adding extra character. It has a nicely rounded dome of 8mm, a long designer 'teardrop' shape, and a fine glossy polish both front and back.
Size: 53x22mm
Weight: approximately 79 carats
Price: SOLD Current gemstone for sale $50.00
