Hell's Canyon petrified wood cab ~
Offered here is a cabochon of petrified wood, an unsual and rare form from Hell's Canyon near the Idaho/Oregon border. (You can read more about this material on my blog.) It is said to be sequoia, showing a fascinating herringbone pattern. Great contrasting lines, each representing a year's seasonal growth in the once-living tree. It also has various sized pools and holes lined with translucent milky, pale yellow, or clear agate, or (common) opal. The smaller ones are filled solid, while the other larger voids penetrate through to the backside. They resemble tiny geodes, complete with fortifications, in an assortment of wild, whimsical shapes. Be sure to click to enlarge the photos to see the details. I'm no expert on pet wood, but this material seems opalized, and it certainly is GORGEOUS! This cab has a well rounded dome of 6mm, a versatile designer 'flame' shape, and a slick glassy polish both front and back.
