Petrified palm wood cab ~
Offered here is a cabochon of petrified palm wood, newly arrived gem material from Sumatra. This fossil wood is a fascinating piece of the earth's natural history, and I think it's absolutely gorgeous stuff! It's been a joy to work with, showing none of the typical pits and chalky soft spots this petrified wood so often has. The once-living palm's speckled figure is still apparent here, but what really catches the eye is the wood's unusual colors, patterning, and the strong contrast between them. In hand, you'll see there's a dark chocolate brown pattern in the black area too, though I wasn't able to capture that in the photos. It's not often you find such good quality pet palm with nice patterning that doesn't have voids or other shortcomings. No pet wood collection is complete without an example of palm wood, and this one is truly a delight. The cab has a designer 'bullet' shape, a well rounded dome of 7.5mm, and it's polished both front and back.
